Invitation - Additional Meditation Period on Sundays?

Would you like to meditate on Sundays in the late afternoon or early evening?

The Practice Committee is considering a new meditation program to add to the weekly Sunday schedule. This potential weekly event will be meditation only with no service in the late afternoon or evening. This allows space for those who may need an alternative schedule for zazen. You may have a busy week with work or school and are seeking another time to come into the zendo at Forest Heart Temple. Zazen only, in a “form free” format, may support you in your schedule.

It would be helpful to know if others would like to participate in zazen together with this “form free” alternative program. Please contact us to help us get a sense of the level of interest.

We are seeking feedback on the possible event time on Sunday evenings. Would sitting zazen at 4pm be supportive? Or would you prefer a time a little later in the evening such as 6:30pm? Please express what time would be best for you in the late afternoon or early evening on Sundays.

If there is enough interest, we would be seeking a few event hosts who can unlock/lock the Temple doors. The host would also ring the bell to open and close the zazen period. One person has already offered to host, but it would be helpful to know if AZG has any other hosts who would be willing to take turns or help substitute when needed. We’re thinking a team of about four people could make this work.

Please note the current weekly Sunday morning program is not changing. This proposal would add to the existing schedule.

Chris has agreed to be a point person to collect information from the community. Your responses will be shared with the Practice Committee, so we can further evaluate how best to proceed. Contact Chris via email at info@arcatazengroup.org to express interest or leave a voicemail at 707-826-1701.
